Introduction to a collaboration

Next morning! (26 2 21)

Overnight, literally. My online performance of Michael Alec Rose’s ‘Air’, at the desk (with Zoom doorbells) for The Exhale, last night. And drawing to playback, with coffee, this morning.

Sharing Collaboration: a conversation with composer Michael Alec Rose

Michael and Peter have worked together intensely since 2004, when they were introduced by great American composer George Rochberg. Their collaboration has resulted in a large body of work, including a concerto, works for string orchestra and string quartet, a collection of duos, and many works for violin alone. Much of this work results from their mutual interests in landscape, history, art, palaeontology, and literature. This is an ongoing discussion on both sides of the Atlantic, in Michael’s home of Nashville Tennessee, or the wilds of Dartmoor. They are currently collaborating on ‘Sedimental Education’, Michael’s latest cycle, based on the geology and beauty of Utah. Michael Alec Rose’s works for Peter Sheppard Skærved can be heard on recordings made for Toccata Classics and Metier/Divine Art

Shared work table with Michael Alec Rose-the Bothy, Manaton. While working on his ‘Erme Plains’ the result of today’s walk Dartmoor, we realised that his ‘Horror’ movement of the new work for the wonderful pianist, Zubin Kanga, transcribes very well for solo violin.
