It was Meirion Bowen who encouraged me to play Gerhard, in my 20s, which resulted in recordings of the Quartets with my quartet, the Kreutzers. I first played the Chaconne on the South Bank in 1996, and have loved it ever since. One of the true challenges for the serious violinist, and certainly one of great works for violin alone.
