Klagenfurt Manuscript (1685) & Antonio Stradivari (1685)

Over the past 18 months, I have been able to revel in the extraordinary small Stradivarius violin, from the collections of the Royal Northern College of Music. This instrument turned out to be the perfect voice for astonishing solo works in the Klagenfurt Handskrift, which can be found in the Landesmuseum Klagenfurt, Austria.

The wonderful Klagenfurt Handskrift. Designed to fit into a coat pocket-tied up with a ribbon-see remains on the right

Here’s a playlist, unsorted of the 43 of these movements which are now edited(there are 98) from the recording project which wrapped up this summer. Enjoy this great combination of extraordinary anonymous 17th solo music (with multiple scordaturae!).

The beautiful back of the 1685 Stradivari
