Nashville 14th September 2015
A very happy first day here in Nashville, working with wonderful young musicians on Prokofiev, Martinu, Bach, Haydn, Ravel, and lots of new music. Then two very intense sessions working with my dear friend Michael Alec Rose, on the newest movements of his Dartmoor Cycle.
Central to this process, is the latest stage of my long-term collaboration with Michael Alec Rose. For the past two years we have been working on ‘Il Ritorno’, Michael’s cycle of works for solo violin, inspired by his deep love for the landscape and culture of Dartmoor.
Today, we worked in detail on ‘Water’ and ‘Stone’. This is the latest stage in a two year-process, which has seen us walking the moor, listening, looking, touching and talking, talking talking. The project reaches out to so many things, bringing together our various passions. Here he is on Hound Tor, during our second visit together to the moor, in December 2013.
