Back to Turner

Back to Turner. For the whole of my life, the Tate’s collection of Turner has been a rondo. Today we approached it via Blake, Fuseli, John Craxton (who used to write lovely letter about rehearsals), John Piper, and then sat here, in front of ‘The Bay of Baiae (1823)’. Every painting in the is familiar, but like coming back to Beethoven, always new.18 105 2013
